Improved fitness for improved quality of life

Sierra Nevada – January 2014 (photo by RG)

We’ve just returned from a fantastic group skiing trip to Sierra Nevada in southern Spain.

As you can see from the photo, we were very lucky with snow and weather conditions, but what really made the trip was the quality of skiing we were able to enjoy.

For some of us, this was partly due to prior experience and superior technical skill (not in my case…), but every single member of our group was able to ski hard for at least six or seven hours a day without suffering injury, undue fatigue or any significant muscle soreness. There’s no doubt in my mind that this was down to good physical preparation.

The group members, whose ages range from 21 to 60+, lead active and busy work and home lives, but also attend JPPT circuit training or ski fitness sessions at least once or twice a week. This regular, but by no means excessive exercise, has done wonders for us all and I was immensely proud of just how well we did and how much we were able to enjoy our time on and off the slopes.

Consistent exercise and the resulting improvement in fitness really does have a big impact on your life – not only will you look and feel better, you’ll maintain muscle mass, lose body fat, improve your balance, co-ordination and strength, stay active for longer, strengthen your bones, improve blood markers and heart health… the list goes on and on.

We are designed to move and enjoy physical activity and we suffer all sorts of illnesses and problems when we remain sedentary.

At JPPT, our aim is to get everyone, regardless of age, gender or physical condition to move better and move more – and not just in the gym.

As our skiers will tell you, the results speak for themselves.
